NCHICA NHIN Gateway Project

On February 25 NCHICA announced a Request for Proposal (RFP) for a NHIN Gateway. The project is being funded through NCHICA's contract with the U.S. Department of Health and Human Services' Office of the National Coordinator for Health Information Technology.

The gateway will connect the Western North Carolina (WNC) Health Network's Data Link to the NHIN. The WNC Health Network is a mature health information exchange organization (HIO) that links 16 hospitals in the region. The purpose of the gateway project is to demonstrate how an established HIO can become a node on the NHIN. Implementation is planned for Spring 2010. This implementation will be based on the NHIN Service Interface Specifications and will be aligned with the State HIE plans.
